Exams

How do Exams Work?

Questions won’t be completely traditional - they will require you to reflect on and find connections between the topics we cover.

Your exams do not compose the majority of your grade. Madness! But again, the exams are designed to measure how much you dug into the material, not how much you can memorize, recite, and promptly forget.

Start in e-Learning

You’ll start the exam in e-Learning. This starts your timer, and you’ll get a link to the actual exam questions in Qualtrics. You will need your Student ID to access the exam in Qualtrics. Using this method of access allows you to save your work and return to it later if necessary.

Once you’ve submitted your answers in Qualtrics, you will receive a Submission code. Submit that code in e-Learning - where you started the exam - within the time limit.

A Section For Every Topic

Each section covers one of the modules included on the exam.

You do not have to answer all questions from every section. The number of questions that you need to answer is specified at the beginning of each section.

You can use class materials, the internet, etc to help you answer the questions. Do not use each other to answer the questions. Do not plagiarize.

Time Limit

You will have 3 hours to complete the exam. Once you start the exam in e-Learning, the timer starts.

Please submit your exam even if the timer has passed 3 hours, so I can see your work! You won’t fail if you’re late - you may lose some points - but that’s better than getting no points!

If Something Goes Wrong

Contact me immediately!!! I can’t help if I don’t know what’s happening. I’m not testing your ability to maintain your internet connection so I don’t want you to be penalized for that kind of stuff. But, don’t message me later and say, “I didn’t do it ‘cause everything crashed so can I just do a make-up exam?”

Responses

  • I highly recommend composing your answers offline then copy/pasting them into Qualtrics as you go. This will prevent losing any work in case the internet decides to get funky while you're taking the exam. If things go really awry, you can always send me your answers directly (hopefully, within the time limit).

  • Please don’t write essays. Keeping things short and sweet shows me you understand the material enough to condense it (and makes everything way easier to grade!).

Use what you’ve learned to give me your answers - some of these questions ask for your opinion, but the content and justification of that opinion is important . I’m asking for your educated and informed opinion. Show me what you know!

  • “I think so, because of the Theory of Blah Blah and how it defines yadda yadda as necessary for gibber gabber…”

    OR

“I disagree, because in the paper "Beep Bop Boop” the authors studied boop, and found that beep and bop are independent of boop. That cannot be explained by the approach in question…”

  • “I don’t think so, because it doesn’t feel right.

“Maybe, but who knows for sure?”

“I think so, based on what we’ve learned in class.”

    “Nope.”

    “Yep.”
